    Synth-pop

Part of Pop and Rock Fusion

Synthpop is a genre of electronic music that emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s, characterized by its use of synthesizers, drum machines, and electronic production to create catchy, melodic pop music. Synthpop combines the accessibility and structure of pop music with the futuristic and synthetic sounds of electronic instruments. The genre often features clean, bright synthesizer melodies, simple but effective drum patterns, and vocals that are either smooth or slightly robotic. Synthpop’s sound is often polished and radio-friendly, blending the upbeat, danceable qualities of pop with the experimental, electronic elements of early electronic music. Artists like Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, and Pet Shop Boys are key figures in the synthpop movement, which influenced a wide range of pop, dance, and electronic music that followed.
