    Dance-pop

Part of Pop and Rock Fusion

Dance-pop is a ubiquitous genre that combines the structured songwriting and catchy vocal hooks of Pop music with the rhythmic energy and production techniques of Electronic Dance Music (EDM). Originating in the post-disco era of the early 1980s, it distinguishes itself from pure dance music by prioritizing the 'song' (verse-chorus structure, melody, lyrics) over extended instrumental grooves or DJ-focused mixing. Dance-pop is a 'chameleon' genre, constantly evolving by absorbing current underground electronic trends—from House and Techno to Trap and Disco—and repackaging them with polished, high-fidelity production for a mainstream audience. It is designed to function equally well on commercial radio and the club dancefloor.
