French House
Part of House
French House, also known as French Touch or Filter House, is a subgenre that emerged in France in the mid-1990s. It is characterized by the heavy use of 'filter' effects (low-pass and high-pass filters) and phasers applied to disco and funk samples from the 1970s and 80s. It combines traditional house rhythms with glamorous production, funky basslines, and a strong focus on melody and danceability. Popularized globally by artists such as Daft Punk, Cassius, and Etienne de Crécy, it defined the sound of late 20th-century club music.
