    Post-Digital

    Part of Sound Manipulation

Post-Digital is an experimental subgenre of electronic music that explores the aesthetic of digital decay and technological imperfections, embracing the glitches, artifacts, and errors that arise from digital media. Rather than aiming for a clean, polished sound, post-digital artists intentionally incorporate these imperfections—such as bitcrushed audio, pixelated sounds, static, and distortion—to create a raw, deconstructed texture that reflects the breakdown and limitations of digital technology. This genre often conveys a sense of nostalgia for early digital sounds or critiques our relationship with technology by exposing its flaws. Post-digital music tends to be minimalistic and abstract, highlighting the aesthetics of failure and the beauty of digital artifacts, and it’s closely related to glitch and experimental electronic music. By foregrounding the imperfections of digital systems, post-digital music offers a unique, introspective listening experience that celebrates both the potential and the limitations of digital sound.
