Vaporwave
Part of Chill-out
Vaporwave is a genre of electronic music and aesthetic that emerged in the early 2010s, characterized by its use of nostalgic, retro-futuristic sounds and visual elements. It blends smooth, ambient synths with samples from 80s and 90s pop, R&B, and smooth jazz, often slowed down or pitch-shifted to create a dreamy, surreal atmosphere. Vaporwave's music often features heavy use of reverb, glitch effects, and distorted vocals, creating a sense of detachment or irony. The genre is also known for its visual style, including 3D-rendered imagery, Japanese characters, and 90s digital aesthetics, all invoking a sense of nostalgia for past eras, often with a satirical or critical tone. Key artists include Macross 82-99, Saint Pepsi, and Vektroid.
