    Horror Synth

    Part of Chill-out

Horror Synth (also known as Darksynth or Slasherwave) is a darker, more aggressive subgenre of Synthwave inspired by 1970s and 80s horror movie soundtracks. Influenced by composers like John Carpenter and Goblin, it utilizes vintage analog synthesizers to create eerie, tension-filled atmospheres mingled with driving, heavy beats. Unlike the nostalgic, sun-soaked vibes of traditional Synthwave, Horror Synth embraces the macabre, featuring distorted basslines, minor-key arpeggios, and an aesthetic rooted in slasher films and the occult. It often crosses over into metal territory due to its intensity and Satanic imagery.
