    Afro/cosmic music

    Part of Disco

Afro-cosmic music is a genre that blends African rhythms and traditional sounds with cosmic, psychedelic, and electronic elements, creating a unique fusion of cultural influences. Emerging in the late 1970s and 1980s, this genre often incorporates jazz, funk, disco, and experimental music, with an emphasis on rhythm, groove, and a transcendent, otherworldly atmosphere. Afro-cosmic music is known for its use of polyrhythms, deep basslines, and synthetic textures, creating a fusion of earthy, tribal sounds with futuristic, spacey vibes. This genre was particularly influential in Italy during the late 70s and early 80s, where DJs and producers began incorporating African-inspired rhythms into their experimental electronic music. It has since become a significant influence on contemporary world music and electronic genres.
