    Hardstyle

    Part of Hardcore

Hardstyle is a powerful subgenre of electronic dance music that emerged in the Netherlands in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It is characterized by its aggressive, distorted kick drum sound, intense 'screech' sounds, and a steady tempo typically between 145 and 155 BPM. The genre often blends the melodic sensibilities of trance with the rhythmic intensity of hardcore techno. A signature element is the 'reverse bass'—a distorted, syncopated bassline that follows the kick—alongside euphoric, anthemic melodies in its more melodic variations. Hardstyle is central to large-scale 'hard dance' festivals and is known for its high-energy atmosphere and dedicated global community.
