Footwork
Part of Juke
Footwork is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago in the early 2000s, evolving from juke music and heavily influenced by hip-hop and house. Known for its rapid, syncopated beats (typically around 160 BPM), footwork features complex, stuttering rhythms, fast-paced percussion, and energetic, bass-heavy production. The genre is often associated with the dance style of the same name, which involves quick, intricate foot movements and spins. Footwork tracks are typically short, with chopped-up vocal samples and glitchy, experimental sounds, creating a unique, fragmented musical experience. It has gained significant recognition in underground and experimental dance scenes, influencing modern genres like juke, trap, and electronic music.
